Pandemic-fueled changes in what and where Americans eat are likely to continue even as the pandemic eases, according to an April 2021 survey of more than 2,000 Americans by SMARTeam, Advantage Sales’ consumer goods insights team.

Work-from-home Americans have altered their shopping lists as they have tried new recipes, used new or different ingredients and changed their views on healthy and indulgent foods, SMARTeam found.

As restrictions lift, shoppers say they are feeling more financially optimistic, but four in 10 say they’ll be looking for more ways to save money compared to their pre-pandemic behavior. Most adults also expect to continue many of their changed behaviors, such as cooking more at home, cooking and baking items from scratch and cleaning more, according to SMARTeam.
