Digital commerce is taking on a bigger role in the foodservice industry, with nearly one-fourth of operators making more of their food and supply purchases online compared to a year ago, according to a new survey by Waypoint, an Advantage Solutions foodservice sales agency.

Three in 10 foodservice operators making online purchases say they are doing more comparison shopping and 15% are buying new and different items online, according to the March 2021 survey of more than 200 foodservice operators.

Still, even as digital platforms take on greater importance, one-third of operators say their foodservice broker sales rep is their No. 1 source of information for new products, menu concepts and recipes.
