Consumers are looking for ways to make healthier food choices and four in 10 are choosing foods because of high-protein claims, according to SMARTeam, Advantage Sales’ consumer goods insights team.

While most consumers eat both animal and plant-based proteins, health considerations influence which type of proteins they eat. The top motivations for eating more plant-based proteins are “to be healthier,” “it tastes good,” “to eat less meat” and “to add variety to diet.”

Consumers are becoming increasingly willing to try protein innovations, with four in 10 saying they want to try plant/meat blends and 14% saying they have already tried them.
